Altum Consulting is partnering with a new, mission-driven hosting organisation to recruit a Head of Technology, offering the opportunity to establish its technology foundations from the ground up.

The organisation provides operational infrastructure and support to charitable projects, enabling teams to focus on delivering their mission.

Joining at an early stage, you will shape the technology strategy and lead the selection and implementation of the systems that support the organisation's growth. Your decisions will directly influence how colleagues work and how partner projects access services, with an emphasis on making technology secure, scalable and straightforward to use.

This is a broad, hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys turning ambition into practical solutions and is comfortable working across strategy and delivery. This role is suited to someone who has worked in start-up or SME environments and understands the need to wear many hats with limited structure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the technology strategy and roadmap, aligned with the organisation's operating model and growth ambitions.
• Partner with operational teams to select and implement core platforms, translating business processes into effective digital workflows.
• Establish an integrated technology architecture that supports reliable data flows and a consistent user experience.
• Set governance standards for information security, data protection and responsible technology use, ensuring external providers maintain appropriate controls.
• Define the technology service model for partner projects, including onboarding, access management and ongoing support.
• Source and lead technology suppliers, consultants and implementation partners, maintaining clear accountability for quality, cost and delivery.
• Identify practical opportunities to use AI and automation to improve services and operational efficiency.
• Build digital confidence across the organisation through clear guidance and support for adopting new tools.

About you

• You are a pragmatic technology leader who enjoys building from the ground up. A start-up or scale-up background is strongly preferred, bringing experience of working with evolving priorities and limited established structure.
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and the occasional chaos of an early-stage organisation, staying composed and helping others find clarity as plans change.
• Strategic and hands-on in equal measure, you are as comfortable shaping architecture and mapping systems as you are getting involved in delivery and overseeing implementation partners. You know when to step back and set direction, and when to roll up your sleeves.
• Your approach is grounded in transparency, collaboration and integrity. You communicate openly about progress and challenges, welcome different perspectives and build trust through clear decisions and consistent follow-through.
• Experience in not-for-profit, philanthropic or shared-services environments would be particularly relevant. International experience within philanthropy or the non-profit sector would also be welcomed.
