A growing international non-profit organisation working on high-impact public health and environmental initiatives is seeking an initially interim Finance Controller to support the development of its finance function during an important period of growth and operational change.
This is a hands-on project-focused role suited to someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes and creating clear, reliable financial reporting within evolving organisations.
Working closely with the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will initially focus on strengthening financial controls, improving reporting quality and bringing key finance processes in-house from an outsourced bookkeeping provider. There is strong potential for the role to become permanent following the initial interim period, transitioning into a broader BAU finance leadership role as the function stabilises.
The organisation operates fully remotely with an international team and requires overlap with UK working hours.
Key responsibilities
- Improve and automate finance processes, controls and reporting
- Bring core finance activities in-house from an outsourced bookkeeping provider
- Strengthen month-end close, reconciliations and audit readiness
- Improve reporting structures and management information
- Support the development of scalable finance systems and workflows
- Ensure restricted and donor funding is accurately tracked and controlled
- Review and strengthen financial controls and compliance processes
- Support budgeting, forecasting and donor reporting requirements
- Work collaboratively with finance and non-finance stakeholders across the organisation
Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent experience)
- Strong financial control and reporting experience
- Experience improving finance processes within growing or evolving organisations
- Comfortable working in relatively lean environments with changing priorities
- Strong systems capability and process improvement mindset
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or similar cloud-based finance systems
- Confident managing reconciliations, controls and audit preparation
- Experience within charities, NGOs, donor-funded or multi-entity organisations highly desirable
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across remote international teams
- Proactive, hands-on and comfortable operating autonomously
This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys creating structure, improving reporting quality and helping organisations build more resilient finance functions during periods of growth and change.
