Senior Systems Accountant

Altum Consulting is proud to be partnering with a leading global investment management organisation to appoint a Senior Systems Accountant within their high performing team based in Amsterdam.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a systems professional with good accounting knowledge who thrives at the intersection of finance, data, and technology, particularly someone with advanced SQL and VBA capabilities who enjoys improving systems, automating reporting, and driving process enhancements in a complex financial environment.

Our client is a globally recognised and award-winning investment firm with a significant international footprint. This role will be located in their Amsterdam office working in a very international, diverse team.

The successful candidate will join a specialist function focused on:

• Enhancing and maintaining accounting systems

• Strengthening data integrity and controls

• Automating reporting and analytical processes

• Leading system-related change initiatives

Role & Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain accounting system structures

• Act as a super-user for core accounting platforms.

• Execute advanced system tasks including running SQL queries, database processes, and system scripts.

• Ensure system outputs align with reporting and accounting requirements.

• Maintain and enhance reporting templates and automated tools.

• Develop automated reports, reconciliations, and control checks using SQL and VBA.

• Analyse large data sets to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency.

• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and reduce manual intervention.

• Implement innovative solutions to improve reporting reliability and efficiency.

• Lead and support system-related projects from planning through execution.

• Manage timelines, coordinate stakeholders, and track deliverables.

• Support system upgrades, enhancements, and implementations.

• Document system changes and maintain procedural controls.

• Monitor data integrity within accounting systems.

• Support valuation controls and financial reporting processes.

• Assist with audit-related system queries and documentation.

Education & Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates who combine strong accounting fundamentals with technical system expertise.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Information Systems.

• Additional accounting or systems certifications are advantageous.

• Minimum 4 years' experience in systems accounting, financial systems, or accounting control.

• Experience within financial services, asset management, or fund environments is highly desirable.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Strong VBA programming capability.

• Solid SQL experience (writing and executing queries independently).

• Experience working with accounting or financial systems.

• Highly analytical with strong conceptual thinking.

• Comfortable handling complex, high-volume data.

• Detail-oriented with strong quality control focus.

• Able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

• Clear communicator with strong written and verbal English skills.

• Collaborative and proactive in approach.

• Fluency in English is essential
