Financial Accountant | £50,000-£55,000 pa | International Cultural Organisation | 6 Month FTC | 1 day a week in office | London
This Financial Accountant role is an exciting opportunity to join a globally recognised cultural organisation during a significant period of finance transformation. With a £10m turnover and an entirely new finance team in place, this position will play a critical role in strengthening controls, leading year-end processes, and ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting.
Working closely with the Finance Director and senior stakeholders, you will provide hands-on accounting support across multiple entities, taking ownership of core financial processes while helping to clear historic backlogs and improve systems and controls.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the year-end close process independently, including preparation of statutory accounts and audit schedules
* Prepare and post journals with appropriate supporting documentation
* Complete bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations
* Manage month-end processes including cut-offs, accruals and prepayments
* Support and respond to audit queries while maintaining ongoing finance operations
* Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with financial procedures
* Assist with clearing historic accounting backlogs and resolving legacy issues
* Support reporting requirements for externally funded programmes
* Contribute to process improvements, automation and systems development within a changing finance environment
Person Specification
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience
* Proven experience leading year-end close and managing audits
* Strong technical accounting knowledge
* Excellent reconciliation and control account experience
* Experience supporting cash to accrual accounting transitions desirable
* Advanced Excel skills and experience with finance systems undergoing change (Xero desirable)
* High attention to detail with strong documentation discipline
* Able to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet strict deadlines
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support colleagues in a small, evolving team
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small but ambitious finance function that is undergoing restructure and modernisation. The team is newly formed and operating in an environment where systems have developed organically, creating a real opportunity for someone to embed stronger controls, improve processes and make a visible impact from day one.
The role is initially a 6 month contract but could well be extended. They are looking for a proactive, technically strong accountant who thrives in hands-on roles and can bring structure and stability during a period of change.
Candidates available at short notice are highly desirable. Apply now.
