Altum Consulting is working with the Lead Exposure Elimination Project (LEEP), an international non-profit organisation focused on eliminating childhood lead poisoning, to recruit a Finance Business Partner.
LEEP was founded in 2020 and has grown considerably in a relatively short period. It now operates programmes in more than 40 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, working with governments and manufacturers to reduce lead exposure from products including paint, spices and traditional eyeliners. The organisation receives funding from a range of major international donors.
As LEEP continues to expand, its finance function is developing to keep pace with the growing organisation. The team is looking to strengthen its financial processes, improve the quality of management information and provide better support to budget holders across its programmes and central functions.
This is an opportunity to join a growing finance team and help improve the way financial information is produced, understood and used across the organisation.
The initial priority will be to work closely with the Financial Controller and wider finance team to improve the month-end process, ensuring that expenditure is accurately recorded and allocated across programmes, countries, regions and funding sources. From there, the role will focus increasingly on financial analysis, forecasting and working directly with budget holders to help them understand their financial position and make informed decisions.
Key responsibilities will include:
Working with the Financial Controller to improve month-end reporting, including identifying and resolving coding and allocation issues.
Producing monthly budget versus actual reports, investigating variances and ensuring budget holders receive accurate and useful financial information.
Building relationships with programme teams and other budget holders, holding regular meetings to review expenditure, discuss financial performance and update forecasts.
Supporting the annual budgeting process and preparing quarterly reforecasts, working with colleagues to understand changes in programme activities, staffing and funding.
Monitoring restricted grant expenditure and supporting financial reporting to institutional and philanthropic donors.
Reviewing the financial aspects of grant agreements and contracts, including budgets, payment terms and funding commitments.
Contributing to financial reporting for the leadership team and Board, helping to improve the quality and presentation of management information.
Developing reporting templates and improving processes to make financial information more accessible and reduce manual work.
The successful candidate will have:
A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or substantial experience in a comparable finance business partnering role.
Strong experience of management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
Experience working with restricted funding, grant reporting and multiple budgets, ideally within an international charity or NGO.
Good Excel skills and the ability to investigate discrepancies, improve data quality and develop reporting processes.
Experience working with non-finance colleagues, with the communication skills to explain financial information clearly and build effective working relationships.
A practical approach and willingness to get involved in the detail, particularly while financial processes and reporting are being improved.
The ability to work independently in a growing, fully remote organisation, managing competing priorities and adapting to changing requirements.
Experience of QuickBooks Online, Payhawk or similar systems would be useful. LEEP is also increasingly exploring how AI tools can improve its processes and reporting, so an interest in using technology to work more efficiently would be welcome.
Contract arrangements
LEEP is open to appointing someone on a permanent basis from the outset, initially on an interim contract, or on a temporary-to-permanent basis. For an interim appointment, the initial period is expected to be around six months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.
The organisation is keen to make an appointment quickly, so candidates will ideally be available to start within one month.
The salary is expected to be around £50,000-£55,000 depending on location, with some flexibility for candidates bringing more extensive experience. An appropriate interim rate can be discussed.
