Financial Accountant (3-Month Temporary Contract)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant for a membership organisation to the Head of Financial Control during a busy year-end period. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting the external audit process, and ensuring a smooth year-end close across the organisation and its subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of statutory financial statements in line with FRS102
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes (journals, accruals, prepayments)
- Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations with accuracy and timeliness
- Manage intercompany reconciliations across the group
- Assist with quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance
- Lead and support a team of 3 Assistant Accountants
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather financial data
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
- Support continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, and systems

- Fully reconciled and supported balance sheet accounts
About You
Qualifications
- Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), finalist, or qualified by experience
Experience
- Proven experience in a financial accounting role
- Strong experience with year-end processes and audit support
- Balance sheet reconciliation expertise
- Experience managing or mentoring staff
- Experience working with auditors and internal controls
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of accounting standards (FRS102)
- Knowledge of UK tax requirements (including VAT, ideally within a charity setting)
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
- Highly organised with strong time management
- Proactive problem-solver
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Great Plains experience desirable)
