We are partnering exclusively to recruit a Financial Accountant for a leading UK charity dedicated to reducing baby loss, improving pregnancy outcomes and supporting families through pregnancy and childbirth. Through research, healthcare partnerships, support services and advocacy, the organisation works to drive lasting improvements in maternal and baby health across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to broaden their experience beyond traditional financial accounting. The organisation is entering an exciting period of growth and change, with finance playing a key role in supporting new initiatives, a system implementation and organisational development. The role will offer exposure to a wide range of projects and the opportunity to help shape finance processes as the organisation continues to evolve. There will also be study support provided to candidates willing to pursue or complete accountancy exams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of accurate and timely monthly management and financial accounts.
- Prepare and post month-end journals, including fixed assets, investments, tax and intercompany transactions.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain robust financial controls and audit trails.
- Assist with the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and external audit requirements.
- Review payment runs and support the integrity of financial processes across the organisation.
- Reconcile income streams and investigate financial discrepancies.
- Prepare quarterly VAT returns and support compliance activities.
- Support the implementation and ongoing optimisation of a new finance system, helping to embed best practice and improve reporting capabilities.
- Review, develop and implement finance processes, policies and procedures to improve efficiency, strengthen controls and support organisational growth.
- Contribute to a variety of finance and cross-functional projects, including systems development, process improvement initiatives and other ad hoc projects as priorities evolve.
- Provide support across accounts payable and receivable functions when required.
The ideal candidate will have
- Experience supporting the production of monthly and annual accounts.
- A strong understanding of accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organised, self-motivated and able to work to deadlines.
- Experience within the charity sector and knowledge of SORP would be advantageous but not essential.
