Programme Finance Manager | Up to £61k | Permanent | International Development Charity | Hybrid (2 days in Central London)
A respected international development charity is seeking an experienced Programme Finance Manager to lead and oversee its growing programme finance function. This is a senior, people-focused role with responsibility for ensuring robust financial control, clear reporting and accountability across a complex grant and programme portfolio.
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will manage the programme finance team and act as the main finance business partner to the Programmes team, while ensuring the foundations of programme accounting are strong, accurate and compliant.
This role requires a strong people manager who has excellent technical skills to enable accurate and timely financial reporting.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and line managing the Programme Finance team, setting clear expectations and ensuring delivery of core accounting and reporting requirements
- Acting as the senior finance business partner to programme and partnership stakeholders, providing clear, transparent and timely financial insight
- Ensuring all programme and grant transactions are accurately processed, reconciled and reported
- Overseeing month-end close, balance sheet and grant reconciliations, cost recovery and cash flow forecasting
- Maintaining strong financial controls, compliance with donor requirements and audit readiness
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and governance reporting for senior management and committees
- Improving processes, documentation and ways of working as the team continues to evolve
The ideal candidate will be:
- A qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CIPFA)
- Technically strong in accounting fundamentals, with a clear understanding that accurate transactions underpin everything else
- An experienced people manager who is comfortable setting expectations, challenging constructively and addressing issues when needed
- Ideally have exposure to programme or grant finance, or who has worked in a corporate or commercial finance role within an international or charitable organisation
- Confident working with senior stakeholders and governance structures
- Pragmatic, organised and outcomes-focused
- Open to learning and development, with the ability to adapt to a growing and evolving team culture
