Financial Accountant

Financial Accountant | 6-month day rate | £325 to £350 per day

Altum Consulting are partnering with a large retail business to recruit an experienced Financial Accountant for an initial 6-month contract. This role will suit a technically strong Big 4 trained qualified accountant to support across financial reporting, audit readiness, and technical accounting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review monthly financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards
• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies or unusual movements
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts and audit deliverables
• Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, providing supporting documentation and resolving queries
• Ensure financial controls are maintained and processes are followed consistently
• Review accounting treatment across key areas and provide technical accounting guidance where required
• Support tax, VAT, and other regulatory reporting requirements
• Work closely with AP, AR, and wider finance teams to ensure accurate financial information
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and analysis where required
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and controls
• Support ad hoc finance projects as required

Candidate Profile

• ACA qualified, or equivalent, ideally trained within a Big 4 firm
• 2 years' PQE
• Strong technical accounting knowledge
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Strong Excel skills with high attention to detail
• Experience in financial reporting, audit support, and balance sheet review
• Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and international finance teams
