Who We Are
Uplift works to support and accelerate a just transition away from oil and gas production. Through research, advocacy, legal action and movement building, we aim to shape policies and public debate that deliver a rapid shift to clean energy while ensuring workers and communities are supported every step of the way. We connect campaigners, experts and decision makers to drive fair, evidence based solutions for a sustainable energy future.
Our Strategy
We focus on driving systemic change through a combination of policy influence, legal intervention and public mobilisation. By producing rigorous research, engaging with decision makers and supporting grassroots networks, we aim to shift the UK’s energy system away from fossil fuels in a way that is both rapid and fair. We prioritise justice, ensuring that workers and communities are central to transition plans, and we use legal and political levers to hold industry and government to account. This multi layered approach allows us to build momentum for lasting change at every level, from local communities to national policy.

Altum Consulting is delighted to be partnering with Uplift, a mission-driven climate organisation, to appoint an interim Finance Manager who will lead the financial and operational transition as the organisation spins out from its host, Social Change Nest CIC, to become an independent legal entity.
Uplift exists to drive a rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK - empowering communities and workers while holding government and industry to account. Founded in 2021 by climate lawyer Tessa Khan, the organisation has grown rapidly to a team of around 35 people with an annual budget of approximately £4m, supported by major UK and international funders.
This is a 9-12 month interim role, with a salary of up to £65,000 with a standard 5 day (37.5hrs), and flexible working options such as 4 day week or 9 day fortnight also possible. It can be fully remote, with the option to use Uplift's shared office space in London Fields. The target start date is January 2026.
The Role
This is a pivotal moment for Uplift as it establishes itself as a Company Limited by Guarantee and builds the internal systems to support its independence.
As Finance Manager, you will:
- Lead the setup of new finance systems, processes, and controls that will underpin Uplift's next phase of growth.
- Project manage key aspects of the transition, coordinating with Social Change Nest and external partners.
- Develop management reporting, budgeting, and analysis frameworks to support strategic decision-making.
- Oversee financial compliance and ensure funder reporting and grant management are robust.
- Work closely with the COO and senior leadership team to implement sustainable, efficient financial operations for the new entity.
This is an opportunity to shape how a high-impact climate organisation operates - translating vision into sound financial systems and practice.
The ideal Finance Manager will:
- Be a qualified (or qualified-by experience) accountant.
- Combine financial expertise with a collaborative approach and a problem-solving mindset.
- Have experience leading finance or change projects in an SME, charity, or start-up setting.
- Have strong systems knowledge (experience with Xero and Google Workspace ideal).
- Be a proactive, adaptable approach and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- Have a genuine commitment to Uplift's mission and values of equity, inclusion, and climate justice.
Working at Uplift
Uplift offers a progressive, inclusive workplace built around trust and flexibility. The team operates a four-day week or nine-day fortnight option (pro-rated accordingly), with generous time-off-in-lieu and a £1,000 professional development allowance.
Staff enjoy 25 days of annual leave plus three Christmas closure days, a hot-desking allowance, and opportunities to grow within a purpose-driven, supportive culture.
Why Apply?
This is a rare chance to combine strategic impact with hands-on delivery, helping one of the UK's most dynamic climate organisations take its next bold step - from hosted initiative to independent force for change.
How to Apply
Altum Consulting will be reviewing candidates on a rolling basis throughout October, ahead of final stages later in the month.

Our Teams
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Anti-Oppression and Accessibility are at the core of Uplift’s values and therefore we strongly encourage applications from candidates whose backgrounds or accessibility/support needs mean they have been traditionally under-represented in the climate and environment sector.
We want great people who can work well as a team and constructively contribute to the growth, development and overall success of the organisation. If this sounds like you, regardless of who you are, your application is welcome
