Altum are recruiting for a Financial Controller to join an exciting cultural organisation. This organisation is a unique cultural destination, showcasing the best of Japan through exhibitions, events, retail, hospitality and educational programming.

This is a brilliant opportunity for a qualified accountant to take ownership of financial control, compliance, statutory reporting, audit, VAT, treasury and governance across a complex and high-profile organisation. The role will work closely with the Finance Director, leading the day-to-day finance function, managing a small team and ensuring the organisation has robust financial processes, accurate reporting and strong controls in place.

Responsibilities:

• Leading the financial control environment across all legal entities, ensuring accurate accounting records and strong financial governance
  * Overseeing statutory accounts, year-end close, audit schedules, VAT compliance, and external reporting requirements
  * Coordinating the external audit process, acting as a key point of contact for auditors and ensuring timely delivery of audit information
  * Maintaining and improving finance policies, procedures, delegated authority controls and financial governance frameworks
  * Overseeing month-end and year-end accounting processes, including journals, reconciliations and supporting schedules
  * Reviewing balance sheet accounts, control accounts, intercompany balances, accruals, prepayments and fixed assets
  * Overseeing cash flow management, treasury operations, banking relationships and working capital controls
  * Overseeing VAT, tax, HMRC, ONS and wider regulatory reporting requirements
  * Ensuring all aspects of MoFA funding requirements are adhered to in a timely manner
  * Managing the delivery of accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, reconciliations, supplier payments and finance administration
  * Leading, developing and supporting a small finance team, ensuring clear responsibilities, segregation of duties and resilience across the function
  * Contributing to finance system transformation, process improvements and wider organisational projects

Person Specification:

• Fully qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  * Significant experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or senior finance role
  * Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits
  * Strong technical accounting, financial control and compliance experience
  * Experience managing VAT, tax and regulatory reporting requirements
  * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  * Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to finance and non-finance stakeholders
  * Strong organisational, communication and prioritisation skills
  * Experience managing or developing members of a finance team
  * Ideally have experience within a multi-entity organisation, charity or not-for-profit environment
