Who we are

We are the world’s most ambitious environmental organisation. We started with one lawyer and his laptop in 2007. Now we are over 300 people, with eight offices around the world, creating powerful change for life on Earth. Read more about our history here.

We are a non-profit using the power of the law to bring about end-to-end systemic change: informing, implementing and enforcing the law, drafting and advising decision-makers on policy, building legal expertise, and ensuring citizens’ access to the laws that defend them.

Our culture and values

We are an organisation that is deeply rooted in our values. We must be guided by our values, and we will always refer back to them when making decisions about the work that we do and how we do it.

Our values will also help us to develop our organisational culture at ClientEarth. We want that culture to foster creativity and innovation; encourage calculated risk-taking; respond to challenges and opportunities in a dynamic and flexible way; build our community and the meaningful collaboration we all crave; create space for diversity and difference; support the wellbeing of our staff; and recognise the critical role that we all have to play in delivering our mission.

We focus on impact.
We learn continuously.
We prize diverse experience.
We oppose injustice.
We act courageously.
We embrace collaboration.

Altum Consulting is delighted to be partnering with ClientEarth, an innovative legal and environmental charity that uses the power of the law to fight against climate change and protect nature and the environment, in its search for a Finance Business Partnering Manager (FBPM).

Over the past few years, ClientEarth has experienced significant growth and professionalisation. With an expanding global footprint and a strong finance team in place, this role plays a crucial part in strengthening regional financial leadership and donor reporting. The successful candidate will help ensure ClientEarth's financial sustainability and effectiveness, enabling the organisation to maximise its global impact in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises.

This opportunity would suit a finance professional with strong donor reporting expertise and leadership potential seeking to join a mission-driven, international NGO, helping to create systemic change for a healthier planet. It offers a gross annual salary of £56,991 if based in London or a gross monthly salary of €5.036,82 if based in Brussels. ClientEarth is proud to be a Flexa accredited Employer. Their flexible working policy allows our people the choice to decide to work from home/another location in the country where their contract of employment is issued for 80% of their month, with the other 20% of their month being office-based.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of three FBPs, ensuring high-quality donor reporting and financial support across Europe.
  • Partner at regional director level, building strong relationships with institutional and philanthropic donors, trusts, and foundations.
  • Oversee review and approval of donor reports and budgets, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Drive process improvements in programme finance systems and procedures, working closely with the core finance team.
  • Support cross-functional projects and working groups to strengthen financial planning and reporting.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, combining technical expertise with a collaborative, business-partnering approach.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience (QBE).
  • Bring extensive experience in donor reporting, restricted funding, and NGO financial management.
  • Have demonstrable management or team leadership experience, ideally within a complex or international setting.
  • Show proven technical skills, including strong Excel ability (candidates will complete a timed assessment as part of the process).
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage competing priorities and "marshal your thoughts" effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to support and challenge colleagues at all levels.
  • Be willing to travel overseas occasionally.

If you are a finance professional with donor reporting expertise and leadership experience looking to make an impact in the NGO sector, we'd love to hear from you.

About ClientEarth

One legal victory can change the system. Enough of them can change the future. At ClientEarth, we use the law to protect life on Earth.

We are an international organisation, made up of lawyers and environmental experts, working across borders, systems, and sectors to tackle the world's most pressing environmental challenges. From climate change to biodiversity loss, our teams collaborate globally to design and enforce legal solutions that create lasting change.

ClientEarth has grown rapidly over the past decade, now operating with offices in Europe, Asia, and the US. We work with governments, companies, and civil society to build a future where people and the planet can thrive together.

Both Altum and ClientEarth value diversity and inclusion and the benefits these bring. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly from under-represented groups.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

ClientEarth values equity, diversity, and inclusion and the benefits they bring. We aim to appoint the most suitable candidate at all times and strongly welcome applications from people from all different backgrounds.

Prizing diversity is one of our core values. Our global staff Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) committee plays a key role in the organisation, alongside our Board EDI sub-committee. We are deeply aware that historically disadvantaged groups are at the sharp end of environmental degradation, that people with intersecting identities experience the harms of environmental degradation in complex ways, and that our mission is best served by a diverse staff.

Recently we have carried out a detailed EDI audit, working with external auditors to explore opportunities where we could do better. The audit has produced a number of recommendations that led to the creation of our first EDI Strategy, which we are currently rolling out.
